The goal
Reducing household emissions and achieving energy independence
“In 2025 I wanted to make some big changes. Big emission reductions were planned by installing an electric heat pump to come off gas, and swapping our diesel car for an EV. This switch to electric reliance would see our usage increase sharply, so solar was part of the plan. I started with the quick quote tool on the Danvers Stanley website to get an idea of the numbers involved… what a solar system on our roof could generate, and how much it would cost. Craig then helped advise what would be best to meet my goals. We wanted the solar generation to cover all of our annual household usage (excluding the EV charging). We went for a considerable system, as this was to be a one off investment and we wanted to make the most of it.”
“Our house roof was also struggling and needed some maintenance. By combining roofing work with the solar installation we were able to get a great value upgrade to our roof.”
The installation
Creating a modern new look and a home that works for the owners
We worked alongside our roofing partners to deliver a comprehensive project. 22 inset solar panels were installed, which effectively become the roof. Tiles are then laid around the panels. This makes for a great value re-roof as fewer new tiles are needed, and aesthetically it looks amazing. Dual Fox EP12 batteries were installed under the car port, along with a Zappi EV charger. In a little over two weeks this property was transformed.
Technology
Quality kit that will last
We recommended Fox ESS equipment for this client, as Fox offer a high quality, reliable product at a good price. Within the budget we could spec up to a considerable system.
The result
The dream setup
“The solar panels are generating a surprising amount of electricity even in winter, we’re looking forward to our first summer to see how they perform. We are now on an Octopus EV tariff, meaning overnight we can ensure our batteries are fully charged for just 5.2p per Kwh (at time of writing). 23 Kwh of storage is considerable and was recommended to ensure no energy was required from the grid during the day in winter to run the heat pump. The batteries are charged by excess solar during the day, and topped up at the cheap rate overnight. We can get through each day without paying for any full-price electric, even in December and January. We have even started exporting some excess electric our panels generate, at 12p per Kwh.”
“In March we turned our first profit. Whilst running our heat pump, powering our house and charging our electric car, we had zero bill and in fact made £17 profit. We can’t wait to see how the system performs over summer.”
