At times your solar panels will produce more electricity than your home is using. A battery lets you store the excess electricity your solar panels produce during the day, so you can use it later when the sun isn’t shining. This ensures that more of the energy your panels generate powers your home, rather than being exported to the grid, helping you get the most from your solar investment.

“Danvers Stanley Electrical have installed a 22 panel solar PV system on the roof of our chalet bungalow in Wimborne, Dorset. To go with this we went for 2 x 11.5 kWh Fox ESS batteries, totalling a whopping 23 kWh of storage. Our electric consumption if fairly high as we have a heat pump, EV and work from home.”

Most modern solar batteries are designed to last 10-15 years, depending on usage, system size, and quality. They gradually lose some capacity over time but continue to provide significant savings throughout their lifespan. The batteries we install come with a 10 year warranty for piece of mind.

When your panels produce more electricity than your home is using, the battery stores the excess. You can then draw from the battery whenever you need it, such as in the evening or on overcast days, maximising your solar usage and savings.

No, you don’t need solar panels to install a battery. Our systems can charge from the grid during cheaper off-peak periods, allowing you to store energy and use it when electricity is more expensive. Absolutely, heat pumps can use a lot of electricity, especially during colder months. A battery allows you to store solar energy or cheap off-peak electricity, for example using the Octopus Cosy tariff, and then charge and discharge several times a day to run your heat pump efficiently. This approach can reduce energy costs, make the most of lower-rate electricity, and help your home stay warm without relying solely on expensive daytime grid power.
