The goal
Generating your own energy feels amazing
Alan, from Broadstone, came to us looking for a plan to enable him to generate enough of his own electricity to drastically reduce his reliance on the grid. He wanted to contribute towards a greener future for British electricity production.
“Our main driver was more about reducing our carbon footprint rather than specific payback, but it’s interesting to see the results, in what didn’t seem like a particularly sunny year!”
The installation
A complete solar and battery system
Each home is different, with a different roof space, orientation, and energy requirements. We are experts in providing solutions that not only work, but look fantastic and can add real value to your property. The unique roof of this home was a great canvas for a set of 18 solar panels, mounted on various available roof spans at different orientations to maximise energy production as the sun moves throughout the day.
Technology
Zero compromise, with SolarEdge
We advised on 18 405W Longi solar panels and a battery from SolarEdge, for top quality, long warranties and total peace of mind. It’s so important to have a setup that will last trouble-free for many years and more than pay for itself in savings.
The result
After one year
“We have an 18 panel system which tells me it has produced just over 6 mWh of energy in total. No, that doesn’t mean much to me either! We also have a battery and solar water heater.
So here are some areas that do mean something:
- Our total electricity bill for the year (3 bed bungalow with gas and water heating, 7000 miles in EVs, all home-charged) was £444.
- We received £482 from the smart export guarantee.
- We would have spent around £1,200 on fuel for the 7000 EV miles.
- We have reduced our gas bill a little by using electric heaters (mainly spring/autumn) in a couple of rooms, plus we have the solar heater for hot water on sunny days.
Do I know what my payback period will be? No. Am I happy we invested in our solar system? Definitely.
And I can recommend Danvers Stanley Electrical, a great team of perfectionists who do a fantastic job!”
